Season 8 Episode 8 brings us to a third of the way through the season. Wow, that happened fast! As I write this article Episode 15 of Grey’s Anatomy is due to screen on the 16 February 2012 in the United States (US); so we are now currently more than half-way through the season in the US. It’s hard to believe the time has gone so fast. Where is this year going?
Is This Worth my Time?
Inspiration and deciding what is most important to us was the theme of Grey’s Anatomy this week. Teddy brought her husband to work, so that he could witness exactly why she loves her job. Meredith and Bailey resolve their differences, obviously both deciding that it was more important to work together in harmony than to be arguing. Poor Lexie, losing Jackson did tug at my heart strings, even though I never liked that relationship. It was hard not to feel for her when she broke into tears in front of her patient, while helping said patient finish her book.
See the Miracle
Teddy was the first see the miracle of the heart in a box; which she in turn attempts to explain to Cristina. However, until Dr Webber comes in to look at heart in a box, and explains the miracle, Cristina is unable to see what Webber means. It is only after Meredith tells the others that Mrs O’Malley is in the hospital that Cristina remembers George; and the heart in the elevator and how “Bad Ass” George was that day; she is then inspired to make her bucket list of surgeries. Webber is also inspired and makes his own list, which he later shares with Cristina.
By the end of this episode it seems as though everyone has been inspired by Heart in a box. Jackson calls off his relationship with Lexie when he realises that he cannot be caught up in a love triangle any longer and also cannot continue to sacrifice his career in plastics just because Mark and Lexie are still in love with each other. Jackson is inspired by heart in a box.
Derek is inspired to take on impossible cases, so he goes looking for patients that have been told no by their doctors. Derek’s plan is try to help these people with absolutely no hope. Owen Hunt; the new Chief of Surgery is against the idea, but he does not say no to Derek, he just expresses his concern for Derek’s reputation.
Bailey and Meredith Finally Call a Truce
George O’Malley’s Mom popped in for a visit as a patient and requested that Meredith Grey be her doctor. Bailey and Meredith are the doctors on her case and it is during Momma O’Malley’s surgery that Bailey and Meredith make peace. Bailey confesses to Meredith that George was her favourite intern. Meredith agreed with Bailey that George was the good one.
Momma O’Malley also notices a wedding ring on Callies finger and asks Meredith about it, Meredith very carefully confirms that Callie is married and is very happy. Later on Callie waits by Momma O’Malley’s bedside for her to wake up, deciding that she must come clean with George’s mom about her life with Arizona and baby Sofia. Callie has not seen Momma O’Malley for more than two years and that would have been at George’s funeral at the start of Season 6.
What’s Next for Our Favourite Doctors?
The obvious question would be what is happening with Henry coughing up blood at the end? Things certainly do not look good for him. It looks like his health problems are back to haunt him and Teddy for a while longer at least.
Will April and Alex get it on, it certainly seems like the Grey’s writers’ are setting us up to believe there will be a romance with April and Alex, but personally I think Jackson should be April’s first maiden voyage. Remember the “Bailey” speech in Season 7, when she told April that Alex is not the boy she wants to take her maiden voyage with. Jackson would be the best choice, but not necessarily April’s choice.
If the previews for next weeks episode are anything to go by we are in for a tense and dramatic episode. The title "Dark was the Night" sure sounds ominous. So Grey’s Addicts, stay tuned.
