Attention Non US Fans; Spoiler Alert! Fans were livid after Grey's Anatomy cliffhanger episode. It was like a season finale but no; just ABC's Winter Hiatus

I know I’ve said this before, but if you are a non US viewer and this episode has not screened where you live, this article is one big spoiler. If you don’t want to know, then don’t read any further.

On November 10, 2011; “Dark was the Night” was screened on ABC in the United States, ABC did not show a new episode until Jan 5, 2012. Fans were furious about having to wait, but this episode was Season Finale quality. That’s how good it was.

Derek and Meredith Get News About Zola

This episode picks up where “Heart in a Box” left off; Meredith, Alex and Cristina are at Joe’s bar discussing George O’Malley and how everything has changed. Meredith gets a call from Janet, Zola’s social worker she leaves the bar to take the call and Cristina follows her back to the hospital.

Meredith tells Cristina that they are not getting Zola back; that Janet told her the hearing with the judge had been cancelled. Meredith goes onto say that Janet said it was time they moved on, at the same time struggling not to break into tears. Cristina runs to find Derek.

Henry is Admitted to SGMW Coughing Up Blood

Oh my, this does not look good and it's not. Poor Henry; just when he thought it was safe to start planning a future, like going back to school. He starts coughing up blood; nice! Teddy is beside herself with worry; however Owen reassures her that they have it. Webber takes Henry for CT scan, and they find a tumor on Henry’s lung. It has to be removed, now!

Webber tracks Teddy down who has just been pulled into a heart surgery, courtesy of Jackson stuffing up in surgery (I’ll get to that later). Webber wants to remove the lung and remove the tumor, and then put the lung back. Teddy wants to go with a laser resection via a bronchoscope. Webber tells Teddy he’s never done one, and does not want her husband to be his first. They elect to get Cristina to perform the procedure as she’s done it before and is they only surgeon available at short notice. However, they don’t tell her it’s Henry she’s operating on and they drape his face.

There is a Screw Piercing a Woman’s Heart

Earlier in the week Jackson performed spinal surgery on a patient. Turns out one of the screws came loose and punctures the woman’s heart. Teddy has to rush to the OR to save her life. She tells Webber to set up the bronchoscope for Cristina and to watch her like a hawk.

Webber and Cristina take Henry to surgery and begin the laser procedure, Cristina has about eight percent of tumor vaporized when Henry start bleed from the intubations tube. Webber elects to open him up and they find that the tumor is more extensive than they first realised. Henry arrests and the doctors perform CPR for twenty minutes trying to get him back, by this time he has lost half his blood volume and Cristina calls time of death.

Lexie runs to get Owen, and Cristina rattle on about how she will write the op note and to please note that the surgery was Teddy’s idea. Owen walks into the scrub room and motions for Cristina to join him. There is no dialogue, and when Cristina realises her dead patient is her mentor’s husband, Sandra Oh’s acting is priceless, total raw emotion; with no dialogue, only her and Owen’s body language.

Meredith and Alex Face Death

Meredith and Alex are ordered to go get a baby from a very small hospital in the mountains who cannot deal with a premature baby. They travel there in an ambulance and arrive safely and collect the baby. She is put in a incubator, put on antibiotics for a fistula in her stomach and intubated so she can breathe. They are on their way back, Alex arguing with Meredith that she cannot give up on having kids when the ambulance breaks down.

It’s freezing cold and raining and the ENT wants them to get out of the rig. They can’t leave the baby, or she’ll die. The ENT explains they are on a hill, on a bend and he is putting out witches hats in the hope if a car comes they will see the hats. However, what we’re praying doesn’t happen does happen; they get hit and are both thrown around the ambulance. Meredith has a cut to her forehead, Alex seems fine. They take the baby out of the incubator and wrap her in blankets. They both climb out of the rig. However none of were prepared for what they would see, at least three bodies and a smashed up van in the middle of the road. This is where the episode ends.

How Will Teddy React to Henry’s Death?

Teddy is still operating unaware that the love of her life has died. To make matters even worse Owen lies about Henry, telling her he’s fine. Callie is running every scan, every bone density test to see what went wrong in the surgery.

Teddy is operating like crazy trying to save this woman, and when she finds the screw puncturing her heart she is furious with Callie and has her paged to the OR to explain what happened. Callie does not know.

What will the fall out be from this? Will Callie be reprimanded? Will Teddy go psycho at everyone for keeping Henry’s death a secret? Will Cristina forgive Owen for lying to her? She did seem awfully mad with Owen, however she was devastated with grief for what Teddy is about to go through. Sound off below or have your say via Twitter or Facebook.
